There was something animalistic about the way Max Verstappen's car humped Hamilton at the Italian grand prix. Very scary too. Which all seems relevant because, finally, the Wildlife Wager paid off in Italy. That poor frightened rabbit.^
Not only that, but as well as the Giantkiller paying out because of Ricciardo's win, the Merc Merk Pitlane Punt paid out because of Bottas quitting Mercedes. It finally happened! This gave a huge points influx for those wily Losers Teams that spotted then played the punt. Suddenly what seemed like a dominant season win for Team Name looks shaky – see the latest standings here.
Read on for the Losers Teams scores for the Italian grand prix.
BIGGEST LOSERS IN ITALY
So close! Just one point separated the biggest scoring Losers Teams at the Italian grand prix. Let's take a look:
- LockedDownLosers reigned supreme at Monza, Tsunoda scoring heavily for them, and a tonne of points scooped up with the Merc Merk Pitlane Punt (see below). An incredible 199 points and first place.
- In second with 198 points was VroomDoom, who also had a Tsunoda / Merc Merk boost. They've come a long way since their negative score back at the British grand prix.
- HAASN'T A CHANCE follow a top score in the Netherlands with third place in Italy, getting 190 points again thanks to Tsunoda and the Merc Merk.
- Panda Pops claimed fourth place with 188 points, their success due to similar reasons listed above.
- In fifth, we find NEEEOOOOWWWW who won a loads of points with the Giantkiller punt (see below) and again had Tsunoda on their team. Spotting a theme?
- And finally, Pierre Ghastly's 109 points gets them 6th place at Monza, despite no longer having Tsunoda on their team. They struck big with the Merc Merk too.
TEAM ACTIONS IN ITALY
- There were no DRS actions in Italy, and that system is now frozen. Most teams will use their final DRS allocation in Russia later this month. After that, Boost Buttons take over.
- Bottas announced he was leaving Mercedes, so the Merc Merk punt paid out in the scores for this race. 150 points each to HAASN'T A CHANCE, LockedDownLosers, Panda Pops and VroomDoom. Pierre Ghastly weren't quite as bold with their punt, but the Merc Merk still earns them 90 points.
- Ricciardo's triumphant win in Monza means the Giantkiller punt pays out. NEEEOOOOWWWW get 105 points, while Tardi Minardi win 35 points.
- A rabbit nearly ran under Latifi's car^ during Italian qualifying, so for the first time this year the Wildwife Wager pays out. Murraylivesforeverinourhearts snaffles 35 points.
- Team Name missed their second chance to land the Russell Hustle punt. Their punt expires and they pay a stake of 20 points.
- The Tour de France is Better were forced into playing the Guenther's Plucky Sluggards punt because of Break Assist. It didn't land, but we don't charge stakes for Assist, so nothing lost.
- Steady Jordan are still playing the Hungry Hungry Yuki punt, and are hoping Yuki mentions food again sometime before the end of the month.
- Because of their poor performance last week, Break Assist forced Not good on the BENds into playing a Fast Forecast. It worked! Giovanazzi got his penalty^, albeit controversially, and BENds get 25 points.
- There was less luck for Steady Jordan, who predicted Russell would lose at least three places on the opening lap, and for HAASN'T A CHANCE who predicted an 11th place finish for Alonso. They were both wrong. They each lose 5 points.
- This is bad news. Last week, Tardi Minardi came last so they were forced into playing an Ejector Seat. Tsunoda got dumped from their team, and Bottas joined instead. This cost them 25 points in Italy. Conclusion? Don't come last – avoid the wrath of Break Assist.
- HAASN'T A CHANCE reversed a previous Ejector Seat decision, replacing Vettel for Raikkonen. It earned them a handful of extra points at Monza.
PODIUM OF SHAME
Urgh. Do we even have to mention the worst performing Losers teams at Monza? They're bringing down this whole place, the shabby, un-losery mouth breathers. Alright. Let's grit our teeth and present our Podium of Shame.
- Clean Trolls and Mancunian Badboy Racing came in joint 22nd with 22 points, a reasonably-performing Lance Stroll continuing to do Clean Trolls no favours, and Perez and Ocon doing nothing for Badboy for the second race in a row.
- It’s a trap Lando! are back near the bottom with 14 feckless points, narrowly avoiding a second Break Assisted team change. Edit: due to a small points error, It's a trap Lando! were never in the bottom three. Instead, our wrath should have been directed to Mancunian Badboy Racing. To pass on the punishment, we give permission for Lando! to shout insults at Badboy whenever they like.
- The Tour de France is Better were hit with a Break Assist at the last race, and they will do again because they ended up in last place in Italy with just 10 points. Here goes...0
Teams with lower race scores live in fear of Break Assist, the new results tool that tries to "help" struggling Losers Teams.
- The random low-scoring team chosen to play a Fast Forecast is Thomas's Tractors, who will predicting that Tsunoda will finish the Russian grand prix in 11th place.
- Our tombola of terror randomly selects the low-scoring Mancunian Badboy Racing to play the Ocon Odds-On for the Russian grand prix, gambling 20 points on Ocon finishing outside the top ten.
- For coming last, The Tour de France is Better will get one of their Ejector Seats triggered. With immediate effect, they lose Raikkonen from their team, and Tsunoda will take his place. Actually, that might not be all bad...

WHAT'S NEXT?
On September 15th, every Losers team gets another Ejector Seat – get changing your team members! The next race is in Russia on September 26th: it's the last ever DRS (Double Race Scores) race. Straight after that grand prix, we launch the DRS replacement Boost Buttons, which is possibly the most exciting thing to happen in the 2021 F1 season.
